Am I really starting a homemaking blog? Okay, I plan to post about other things too, but homemaking will be a big part of it. But really, who am I to start a homemaking blog? Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I have never been what one would call “domestic.” In fact, I have avoided many domestic responsibilities for most of my life. However, as I have grown older I have developed a fascination with homemaking. You could say that I have been on a bit of a homemaking journey over the past year, as I have been working to develop my previously neglected domestic skills.
Am I cut out to be a homemaker?
Like I said, I have never been domestic. I am also not married. Well, not yet. I recently became engaged, so marriage is right around the corner! I don’t have kids (unless you count animals). And I am not a stay-at-home anything. I graduated from nursing school in December, and I will be starting a nursing career this spring. However, I do not believe that being a homemaker means that you have to be a stay-at-home wife or mother – not that there is anything wrong with those things (they are wonderful paths to follow). To me, being a homemaker means truly caring for the home, and cultivating a warm and inviting space for your family; even if your family just consists of you and your pet!
It seems these days, at least in the world of social media, that there are either working women or homemakers. But what about those of us who aspire to be both? My hope for this blog is that it will be a space for other women like me who want to pursue careers and have big dreams, but also love homemaking. With a country twist of course!

I feel exactly the same way, that’s why I called my own blog “the Spinster’s Pantry” =D
For me, there is no need to choose between being a working woman and a homemaker: I have a home, I like it to be cozy and welcoming, I like to cook, to care for myself and my house… so I am a homemaker!
